I've been umpiring for 4 years, and have recently been moving up from Little League / Babe Ruth to High School & College Club Travel Teams.
Mar 15, 2012 The lineup card is a great game management tool for the umpire. However you use it, make sure your method is simple, quick, and efficient. Hope this information helps! Something that has started confusing me is the use of a DH.
- I know that he bats for the pitcher, but does this mean that the pitchers spot on the lineup card is just skipped when it comes to batting order (DH bats where he is listed)? Or does the DH bat in the pitchers spot, and the DH spot is skipped?
- Does the DH act as a defensive position which can be subbed in / out for, or does it have to be the same player all game?
- If the pitcher is switched for someone on the bench, does the DH bat for this new pitcher? If the pitcher is switched with someone on the field does the DH take over the new pitchers spot, or does he still bat in the same place?
- What does the saying 'losing our DH' mean?
Is there anything else I should know about Designated Hitters? Thanks!
